About the Color Converter & Contrast Checker

Convert a colour between HEX, RGB and HSL, pick one visually and check the WCAG contrast ratio of text in that colour on white and on black.

How to use it

  1. Pick a colour or type a HEX, rgb() or hsl() value.
  2. Copy the format you need.
  3. Check the contrast results before using the colour for text.

Frequently asked questions

What contrast ratio do I need?

WCAG AA asks for at least 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text. AAA asks for 7:1 and 4.5:1.

What is the difference between RGB and HSL?

RGB mixes red, green and blue light. HSL describes the same colour as hue, saturation and lightness, which is easier to adjust by hand.
